I am sure an operational heating and air conditioning system is just as important as your car being operational. Relying on your heating system to keep your home warm in the cold winter months and the air conditioning system cool in the hot summer months is the utmost importance.
When is it time to consider replacing your HVAC unit?
Yes it is true; many HVAC systems can last for years, especially if you have preventive maintenance done twice a year. But the true story be told, that older HVAC systems will eventually be more expensive to operate and many times failure happening during inopportune times.
Should I continue to pay for repairs, or bite the bullet and just replace my system?
A reputable heating and air company will tell you that there is no sense in spending money on replacing a unit if it is not necessary. Spending good money over bad on repairing a HVAC system that is on its last leg might not be the best approach either.
How will I know when the time is right?
Ask yourself a couple questions when considering when the right time is to replace your system.
It is true that heating and A/C units have what we call “shelf lives” Consider the average shelf life being 10 years. There is no doubt that systems can/will continue to operate beyond but one indication of an aged system is leaking or lost fluids. Is your system losing refrigerant?
Is your system making loud noises, or does it sound louder when it is running? Pinging or knocking noises in your HVAC system is not normal. Old HVAC systems can be more expensive in the long run than replacing. Purchasing the entire HVAC system as a matched set also means one visit to install and one HVAC company to handle any warranty needs. You may also qualify for rebates from your utility company.
Evaluating a few simple questions can help you determine if you should consider replacing your HVAC system and if you are still unsure why not defer to an expert. Call Performance Heating and Air Conditioning, and we would be happy to come out and discuss your options.
